"Native Plants of the Texas High Plains" -- Plant Identification Book
published by North Rolling Plains RC&D Area

The North Rolling Plains RC&D Council utilized grants from RC&D, Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative and other sources to publish a plant identification book called “Native Plants of the Texas High Plains”.

The purpose of the book is to provide an educational tool to help people learn to identify native plants and to teach them the value of those plants in the ecosystem. In this book each plant is shown in full color photographs as well as detailed drawings. A description of each plant and its value to livestock and wildlife are included in the narrative. The book was developed by a team of conservationists from NRCS with input from University professors, regional range conservationists and state & federal wildlife agencies. The book comes in a three-ring binder so additional pages can be added. The North Rolling Plains RC&D is currently in the process of developing an update that will add 100 additional plants to the book. Free books were initially provided to schools, libraries, county agents, FFA clubs, soil & water conservation districts, and conservation professionals. Additional books are available through the North Rolling plains RC&D office.
